Chile approves 97 MW of PV projects in Atacama
September 29 – Chile’s environmental evaluation service in the Atacama region gave approval on Friday for the installation of 97.2 MW in photovoltaic (PV) parks within the country’s central power system.
The committee approved an expansion of Diego de Almagro Solar, allowing Energias Renovables Fotones de Chile SpA to install 61.2 MW in a redesigned northern sector instead of the original 50 MW, while the southern area is being extended with the addition of 18 MW to the initial 40 MW. In the end, the park will have an installed capacity of 119.2 MW.
The other approved projects, Malaquita Solar and Cachiyuyo Solar, are managed by Apolo del Norte SpA and Nuovosol SpA, respectively, both subsidiaries of Canadian developer Distributed Power Partners Inc. The plants will be installed in Tierra Amarilla, each with a 9-MW capacity.
