Brazil’s Piaui to power administrative centre through solar array
April 8 – The government of Brazil’s Piaui state announced on Thursday that a 453-kWp solar array will be installed for its Administrative Centre.
The State Department of Administration and Security (SeadPrev) and the Secretariat of State for Mining, Oil and Renewable Energy, together with an unnamed German company will be responsible for the project, the government said. Construction is expected to begin during the first half of the year and the system should be fully operational by the end of 2016.
The initiative should help Piaui save about BRL 1.3 million (USD 355,933/EUR 312,627) per year. If successful, the government intends to deploy similar systems on public buildings throughout the state, showing potential investors the benefits of solar distributed systems.
Earlier this week, local renewables firm Atlantic Energias Renovaveis SA signed a cooperation agreement with the state for the development of a 195-MW wind complex.
