Brazil’s Ceara seeks IDB funds for solar project on water channels

August 26 – The government of Brazil’s Ceara state has turned to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for financing needed to implement a new solar energy project that would help reduce water loss.

The state intends to install solar panels on water channels. Thanks to the shading these systems will provide, the loss of water from evaporation will be reduced. The proposal was discussed on Wednesday.

IDB and the Ceara government are expected to agree a technical cooperation soon. The bank is looking to help Brazil meet its objective of reaching a 23% renewables share by 2030, IDB’s senior expert on Climate Change, Thiago Mendes, said in a statement.

Currently, Ceara accounts for 67.24% of all the installed solar capacity in the country.
