Brazil can have 41 GW of rooftop PV by 2030 with the right support –
May 9 – Brazil has the potential to reach 41.4 GWp of rooftop solar capacity by 2030 if the government takes certain steps, including reducing taxes on solar energy raw materials, according to a Greenpeace report from last week.
The study says that if the government implements measures such as allowing the exemption from the ICMS tax on goods and services in all its states, it can reach the point where it has solar installations on nearly 8.8 million rooftops. This would also bring in BRL 11.3 billion (USD 3.1bn/EUR 2.8bn) in new taxes and create up to 4 million jobs.
The document also shows that these measures, if taken nationwide, could offset 122.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and lead to the discontinuation of new hydropower plant (HPP) projects in the Amazon region.
