Argentine Permer II to fund rural PV systems in Chaco – report
Jul 8, 2015 15:51 CEST
July 8 – Argentina’s Chaco province will channel all funds under the national rural renewables programme, Permer II, to photovoltaic (PV) installations in off-grid communities.
The province may receive a similar amount like the USD 7.8 million (EUR 7.1m) allocated during the first phase of the programme, Gabriel Boczar from Chaco’s renewable energy department has told Energia Estrategica. Until the end of 2012, the programme provided PV panels for 3,680 homes and 208 schools within the province.
Now, the funds will mainly support installations at schools, health centres and other institutions, rather than homes, including expansion of existing PV systems.
Permer II, financed by the World Bank, includes PV, mini-grids and wind systems, as well as solar water heaters and stoves for some schools and institutions. The expansion of the programme by USD 200 million aims to benefit 725,000 people across Argentina.
