October 30 – Argentina’s Chaco province will order photovoltaic (PV) installations in rural areas for USD 9 million (EUR 8.1m) via tenders, news site Energia Estrategica reported Friday.
Governor Jorge Capitanich and the country’s energy secretariat have signed an agreement on the matter as part of the national rural renewables programme Permer II.
The plan will be implemented in stages starting with USD 2.5 million for 1,300 residential consumers, while later the funds will benefit schools, health centres and police stations. The tenders will start next month and the PV systems will be installed as of 2016.
Permer II, approved by the World Bank in April, will receive a USD-200-million loan for PV, mini-grids and wind systems, as well as solar water heaters and stoves for some schools and institutions in rural communities.
