Argentina’s 1-GW auction gets 6.3 GW of wind and solar bids

September 6 – The energy ministry in Argentina announced it has received 123 bids for 6,336 MW of power capacity in its renewables tender that will award power purchase contracts to 1,000 MW of capacity.
There were 49 bids with a combined capacity of 3,468 MW from wind project developers, and 58 bids for 2,834 MW from solar companies. Bioenergy and small hydro developers offered 53 MW and 11 MW, respectively, the ministry said in a presentation yesterday.
The winners in the auction will be announced on October 12. Before that, the Argentine government will be assessing the technical and financial proposals.
The tender aims to award contracts for up to 20 years at rates per MWh in US dollars. The economic bids will be opened on October 7. In August Chile’s power supply auction received a record-low solar bid of USD 29.1 (EUR 26.5) per MWh by Spanish solar power developer Solarpack for a 120-MW park.
Argentina previously said it targeted 600 MW of wind, 300 MW of solar, 65 MW of biomass, 15 MW of biogas and 20 MW of small hydro projects in the auction. Apart from the long-term contracts, project will enjoy additional benefits such as tax incentives.
