The unit uses a rechargeable Ni-Cad battery: a rechargeable battery that has the ability of recharging over 500 times.     Purchased this product with the intention of providing a backup to the lights already around the home for security purposes as well as decoration. The kit went togeather easily and I had the light put up in no time. After a couple months use the lights are still in good shape.

    Did a bit of anti-theft prevention in the form of drilling a hole and pop-riviting the joints togeather but other then that the kit is great as is.
