Japan’s Koyo breaks ground on 9-MW PV plant in Iwate
September 20 – Japanese company Koyo Eletric Corp announced last week it began the construction of a 8.8-MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Iwate prefecture.
The Takizawa City Solar Power Plant will cover an area of 150,855 sq m (1,623,789 sq ft). It is expected to be completed in December 2017. The total cost of the plant should be around JPY 3.47 billion (USD 34.06m/EUR 30.46m), according to Koyo’s press release.
With 28,000 solar modules supplied by South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc (KRX:066570), the PV plant should generate about 9.5 million kWh per year, equivalent to the demand of some 2,900 local homes.
Once operational, the PV plant will sell its output to domestic utility Tohoku Electric Power Co Inc, Koyo said. Design and construction is a responsabilioty of local firm JFE Plant Engineering.
