Brazil has over 2.6 GW of contracted solar projects
July 28 – Brazil has 2.65 GW of solar power projects that won contracts over the last two years, the Ministry of Mines and Energy said on Wednesday, quoting a new report.
This capacity may put the country among the top 20 largest solar power producers in 2018, the ministry adds.
According to the Ten Year Energy Plan 2024 (PDE 2024), Brazil’s installed solar capacity is expected to reach 8,300 MW by 2024. Of this, 1,300 MW is seen to come from distributed generation (DG) systems, the ministry noted.
Recently, DG installations tripled in the country, getting close to 4,000 units. Studies from state-owned energy research firm EPE show that 18% of all the Brazilian households will have photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems by 2050.
