Brazil’s CPFL starts 800-kWp solar research project in Sao Paulo
March 25 – Power company CPFL Energia SA (BVMF:CPFE3) said Thursday it has initiated an 800-kWp solar microgeneration research project in Sao Paulo state.
The Telhados Solares project will require BRL 14.8 million (USD 4m/EUR 3.6m) in investments. It involves the connection of 200 solar systems installed at CPFL’s residential and commercial consumers in Campinas city.
Scheduled for completion by November 2017, the objective of the so-called Telhados Solares project is to evaluate the impact of a massive connection of solar microgeneration systems to low voltage electrical networks. In particular the company wants to see how that affects the power supply to customers who do not have solar panels and to prepare for the solar expansion in the country.
Currently, CPFL has a solar portfolio of 623.5 kWp spread over 95 residential and commercial solar installations.
According power sector regulator Aneel, Brazil has 51.1 MWp of operational solar power facilities, with 28.2 MWp in microgeneration and 22.9 MWp in large plants. New solar power capacity of some 1.7 GW is expected in 2017, thanks to power deals in the latest energy auctions.
