Morocco-made solar thermal collectors may soon hit the market
February 19 – A team of two companies and a university is working to roll out to market Morocco’s first solar thermal collector with a working title of Sol’R-Shemsy.
An agreement was signed in Fes this week to provide funding to the tune of MAD 5,958,000 (USD 610,000 / EUR 500,000 ) for the project. Morocco’s institute for research on solar energy and renewable energy Iresen will secure 60% of the sum via the InnoTherm programme.
The “Made in Morocco” solar thermal panels for heating water are being developed by a consortium including the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah university (USMBA), state-owned Societe d’investissement en energie (SIE) and the company Energypole.
The Sol’R-Shemsy project aims to roll out to the local market collectors which meet European quality norms but have a better quality-to-price ratio for Morocco, university professor at the Fez Technology Graduate School, Ali Ben Bassou told local media.
