India to boost solar power share to 18% by 2030 – report

November 6 – India’s solar capacity is expected to account for 18% of the country’s total power mix by 2030, compared to a share of just 1% currently, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said Thursday, citing official sources.

Raising solar’s share to that level is one of the steps the government will take to achieve its previously announced commitment for India to source 40% of its electricity from non-fossil fuel based sources by that year.

In addition, the share of wind power in the total mix is seen to increase to 10% from 9% by 2031-2032, while that of hydropower is expected to drop to 9% from the current 17%, according to PTI’s sources.

India has officially pledged to boost its renewable energy capacity to 175 GW by 2022 from the current 36 GW, including 100 GW of solar and 60 GW of wind.
