Globo Brasil switches on 180-MW solar panel factory

August 28 – Brazil’s solar panel firm Globo Brasil is inaugurating today a 180-MW solar panel factory with a capacity of 2,000 panels a day in Valinhos, Sao Paulo state.
With the new factory, Globo Brasil has created about 240 direct jobs in the region and and many more indirect jobs, according to a press release by the local government.
Investe Sao Paulo, a promotion agency of investments linked to the Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, is supporting the project, mainly on tax matters.
Investing in solar power will allow Brazil to access to energy at lower costs and with increasing security, not being so dependent on thermal and hydropower plants (HPP), said Flavio Manuel Coelho, Globo Brasil’s attorney.
Soon we are expecting the results of today’s solar-only auction. Projects with a total capacity of 11,261 MWp of were allowed to participate, including 1,109 MWp in Sao Paulo.
