Chile to allocate land for USD 2bn of renewables
August 12 – Chile’s Ministry of National Assets will allocate over 5,000 hectares (12,360 acres) of land for 12 renewable energy projects in the Arica and Parinacota region that are valued at USD 2bn (EUR 1.7bn) in total.
The information was given by minister Victor Osorio on Monday during a visit to the parks being build in the region.
From the 12 projects, 11 will be solar, including a single solar thermal power scheme, and one will be wind. The Arica and Parinacota region was chosen due to its high solar energy concentration, which is 30% more than in countries such as Spain and Germany, noted the minister.
The Ministry of National Assets has approved a total of 165 concessions for such projects in the regions of Arica, Tarapaca, Antofagasta, Atacama and Maule.
