July 23 – Total of 38,917 MW in proposed capacity has been registered for Brazil’s November 13 reserve energy auction for wind and solar power, state-owned energy firm Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE) said.
The capacity comes from 1,379 projects, of which 730 are wind and 649 are solar, totaling 17,964 MW and 20,953 MWp, respectively.
According to Mauricio Tolmasquim, EPE’s president, this auction got a record high volume of registrations, which in turn shows the growing investor interest in the country’s renewable energy sector.
The state of Bahia is once again the top contestant with 243 of wind projects, 6,050 MW total, and 192 solar schemes with a capacity of 6,049 MWp.
The projects need to go through the qualification process before they can effectively participate in the tender.
This tender is the second reserve energy auction of the year in Brazil. The winning projects will be awarded 20-year supply contracts, with the future plants scheduled to go online on November 1, 2018. The first reserve energy auction is scheduled for August 28 and involves only solar.
