Argentine Rio Negro to test wind-solar systems in two sites – report

June 26 – Argentina’s Rio Negro province is planning to implement small hybrid wind-solar systems in the areas of Laguna Blanca and Pilquiniyeu del Limay, Pilcaniyeu department, local news agency ADN said Friday.

According to an official report, the hybrid renewables networks are decentralised systems combining different energy sources with storage systems, supported by a generator that can be used in times of lower wind, solar or hydro generation.

Laguna Blanca has an advantage in terms of altitude, topography and hours of sunlight. It is located on a plateau at 1,176 m (3,858 ft) above sea level, while Pilquiniyeu del Limay lies in a small valley at an altitude of 957 m, according to the report.

In the adjacent El Cuy department, Rio Negro’s grid operator Transcomahue SA and technology developer Invap SE will develop a wind park of nearly 17 MW through their joint venture Eolica Rionegrina SA.
