May 14 – US utility Georgia Power, part of electricity generation firm Southern Co (NYSE:SO), said Wednesday it has inaugurated a 7-MW expansion of the Dalton Solar Plant.
Located in Dalton, in the state of Georgia, the newest installation represents the third phase of the project, adding to the approximately 700 kW from two previous phases. They came online in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Dalton Solar Plant is Georgia Power’s first self-developed and self-built solar generation facility.
To install the photovoltaic (PV) plant, Georgia Power leased property from Dalton Utilities, while the later will be purchasing 100% of the solar output under a 25-year wholesale power purchase agreement (PPA).
