February 24 – Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) has received planning permission for its up to 7.5-MW Arkwright solar farm project in Derbyshire in England’s East Midlands region.
Chesterfield Borough Council has unanimously decided to give the project the green light, the UK renewable energy developer said today. The planning application for the solar scheme was submitted at the end of September last year.
The solar panels will be installed on private land to the west of Duckmanton. Construction is expected to start in the summer, once planning conditions have been discharged, the company said. When completed, the facility is estimated to produce enough electricity per year to meet the average needs of over 1,000 homes.
The company said it would discuss community benefits with local representatives during the coming months. At a public exhibition about the project in March 2014, it was suggested that the local school be a recipient of such.
RES operates a global portfolio of renewable assets, currently totalling more than 1.3 GW, according to its website.
